|
Where and when was your Mac born ?
I am working on a 68k Macintosh serial number decoder with the help of a very talented coder - thanks m8!
Decode following facts about your old Mac from its serial number
Manufactured in
Year of production
Week of production
Production number
Modell ID
To use this decoder, simply type in your Mac's serial number, any spaces or asterisks need to be left out, as they are not considered to be part of the serial number. Click the Decode button or press to decode your Mac¥s serial number. The decoder supports Mac¥s from 1984 - 1999.
Please the following link to decode your Mac¥s serial number.

If you run across an unsupported model or an "undefined" value, please contact me with as much data as you know about the computer like: serial number, model, model number, CPU speed, where it was made (if known), when it was made (if known), etc. I try to add support in a future revision. A big thank-you goes out to everyone who submitted serial numbers ó you've helped to improve this decoder immensely! _________________ MacOS aka Oliver

Dear Forum Members,
now the Decoder reaches its Version 1.0 status I ask you to test it (again).
In the last month I have added many missing model numbers,
thanks to all who helped to make it more complete.
The Serial Decoder now decodes:
Macintosh SEÂ¥s,
Macintosh IIÂ¥s,
PowerBook¥s,
Performa¥s,
Quadra¥s and
PowerMac¥s Serial Numbers!
Please do me a favor,
check all your 68k Mac¥s with the Decoder and let me know:
Is the correct Model decoded ?
Is the date of production realistic ? Here is a Apple product time line.
Is the Country/Factory correct decoded
mostly you find the "Made in ...." info at the back/bottom of your Mac.
If you find a bug, missing info or even when everything is all right,
please let me know - I like to have this decoder working correctly.
If you have a Macintosh Portable
please check the decoded year of production
Is it correct ? (must be around 1989/90)

Very specific question - only for the apple nerds...
If we decode the Serial number of one of my Mac Plus: C 631 0R0 M0001AP
We get following results:
Quote: | Manufactured in: C => Cork, Ireland
Year of production: 6=>1986
Week of production: 31=31
Production number: 0R0 => 850
Modell ID: M0001AP => European Macintosh Plus
Your European Macintosh Plus was the 849th Mac
manufactured during the 31th week of 1986 in Cork, Ireland. |
What exactly indicates 850th Mac
Is it the 850th Mac produced in the 31th week of 1986 in Cork, Ireland
Is it the 850th Mac produced in 1986 in Cork, Ireland
Or is it the 850th Mac produced in Cork, Ireland ever ?
Huh... who¥s in charge... _________________ MacOS aka Oliver

Hi,
"The Pickle" from www.macfaq.org told me:
Quote: | Presumably, since the unique identifier sequence restarts each week.
the pickle |
So this means my Mac Plus is the
850th Mac produced during the 31th week of 1986 in Cork, Ireland.
Decoder Version 1.1 - Added following Model IDs:
"2D9" "KA1" "B01" "B03" "C40" "M0420 "L13" "L02" "M61" "DZ4" "D23" "C82" "1XS" "1M1" "1LZ" "D39" "3B1" "3BF" "CC5" "CC2" "VA1" "VA2" "CC7" "L0Y" "10Y" "20C" "G20" "41Y" "44H"
it gets more and more acurat _________________ MacOS aka Oliver
