Yesterday I've installed successfully a harddisk into my Apple IIGS. Some questions still remain:

1. I've downloaded GS System 6.01 from the Apple homepage and wrote the disk-images on my old Performa 630 onto floppy-disks using the finder. Problem: The images seemed to be larger than the disks, on some disks there were something about 26 kB missing. So I've deleted some "unnecessary" stuff. Unfortunally it is not possible to install the system without that stuff using the Installer.

2. Is there a System 6.01 in german language?

3. The smalles HD I've found has 800 MB. Prodos cannot adress more than 32 MB per partition, so I've made 8 partitions. Is it true that more than 8 partitions is not possible? Is there a way to make bigger partitition using another file-systems? The readme comming with the controller says HFS is possible, but not recommended. Why?

I have several German System, including some 6.0 Versions.

Do you need the exact version 6.01 or any other will work too?
What for a Diskdrive is attached to the GS? The 800k Drive, 3.5 inch?

I think the version doesn't matter, I wrote 6.01 because it is the latest version at apple.com.

I have the 800 kB 3,5 inch disk drive from Apple.

Disk-Images will do it, too, if you have a solution for writing them on a Macintosh without that strange bug. (I think it's a bug...)

When you decompress the image onto a disk using DiskCopy, you need to keep the settings in DiskCopy "compressed" and "not writable". When you change this settings, it is sometimes to much data on the disks. They must be compressed like the original ones.

Your hint with DiskCopy was great, that was exactly the problem Smile

But now the next problem: I've installed system 6.01 using the installer, it worked fine. But when I boot from the harddisk, it starts booting, but after fiishing with the progress-bar the start-screen does not disappear. I've tried a manual installation, too, with the same result.

About the german system: You have mail:-)
