How Apple Kept the iPhone Secret
Before Jobs revealed the iPhone at Macworld, Apple had to keep secrets from multiple companies and its own employees.
There's a pretty good analysis of Apple's miraculous ability to keep the iPhone secret right up until its release by Peter Lewis from Fortune. How did Apple do it? Keeping secrets from spouses and children, threats of dismissal and prosecution and, my favorite, showing fake prototypes to employees and, yes, even strategic partners.

You know, it's really fun to watch this video while reflecting on new product intro videos. If you've watched any keynotes lately, you will notice that Jobs will always introduce a new product, then then price and then he'll get the applause from the crowd. It's exactly the same as this ancient video from years past, with the exception that Steve Jobs of the 21st century recites his speech from memory, whereas the younger version of himself read the speech. Fun. |
