Diversified I/O, Inc. Hard Disk Utilities notes about the software
as of October 23, 1992 (version 2.38)
Disk Utilities — Run this program to format, partition, or test your hard disks. If you are running System 7, we recommend starting up the Macintosh while holding down the shift key, before doing formatting, partitioning, and testing of disks (to disable extensions that might interfere with the operations). You must start your Macintosh from and run our Utilities program from a disk drive other than the one you will be formatting or partitioning. If you have a Macintosh Quadra or PowerBook that requires System 7, you only have one floppy drive, and you are trying to format your only hard disk, then you will have to set up a RAM disk to boot from or run our program from. Our Utilities program will not fit on the same floppy diskette with System 7. Apple's Memory control panel allows you to set up a RAM disk on the Quadra and PowerBook computers.
Supported Hard Drives — A text file containing a list of drives supported by our software. Our software is highly optimized for each of these drives. It automatically identifies the drive and adjusts the drive parameters for optimal performance when you format the drive.
Mounter — A control panel for mounting and unmounting partitions. It is especially useful for password protected partitions. Place it in your System Folder. If you are running System 7, you don't have to have it in the Control Panels folder (some people place it in the Apple Menu Items folder for easier access). It doesn't need to be installed unless you partition your disks. You can use the Mounter to designate a parition on each disk as a boot partition. Even if a disk is not going to be used for booting, designating a partition as a boot partition is necessary if you wish to use it for virtual memory storage.
!DIOinit — Place this in your System Folder if you are going to be using removable disks formatted with our software or you have multiple hard disks formatted with our software (it will insure they all get mounted). Under System 7, it should be placed in the Extensions folder. If you are using software to control the loading of extensions, you should set our extension to load before most other extensions (low level drivers like ours should load before other extensions that may need to use them).
