and many others...

These amazing oil-on-canvas and mixed media paintings were lovingly adorned with Macintosh SEs for a Sweden-only ad campaign all the way back in 1987. Erik Saxen produced these original works (inspired by a number of famous artists) for Apple’s marketing, but is now seeking a collector to take them off his hands. Sure, they’re masterfully painted, but more interestingly come from a time when Apple, a more innocent underdog, could portray their products as fine art without coming off as arrogant. The original paintings of the Macintosh SE advertisment campaign are also an interesting investment.

Quoting Artist Erik Saxen (Sweden):

I painted them in Gothenburg Sweden in 1987 for HLR-BBDO advertising agency Stockholm. Tore Claesson was the art director with the vision to OK the marketing concept (now at or last seen at Tomorrow Group, Hong Kong). Head of Apple in Stockholm at the time that OK'd the campaign was Isaac Stern.

It was a huge poster campaign and newspapers also with a special promotion for the launch of the SE. The Boteroesgue high wire was 'Come and see out artist' at all the dealerships. Everyone from Cupertino visiting wouldn't get on the plane without a set of posters.

The dealerships were issued with all the full sets of color posters for display and the Campaign in all Swedish Newspapers was in Black and white because beforehand the space had been booked and couldn't be changed .... when the Mac SE campaign changed. It was originally another concept that was thrown out at the last minute by Isaac Stern (Top Apple man in Sweden at the time) Tore Claersson was art director and rescued the situation for the ad agency HLR-BBDO by bringing me in as a freelance and putting together my artwork. The Copy writer was brilliant because he got all my artwork to work by his slogans and stuff.

The paintings are largely in oil although some are mixed-media which I don't recall exactly. The sizes I can give an approximation only (around 70 to 100 cm) as its some time since I saw them last. They are in a temperature controlled storage in Florida.

The complete collection is naturally more valuable if it is complete and not split up. If there are no takers, the pieces will be sent to Sotherby´s or Christie's auction at the first 'computer' themed auction. Let's stop that from happening!  The paintings will be in unpublic (but online) auction in February 2009. If you are interested please contact me.

If you are a collector of unique Apple computer art or the curator of a computer museum - here is the chance to get something really unique and special. If you would like to make a serious bid on the complete series or one of the pictures - please contact myoldmac.net´s webmaster (me) O. Soehlke. Please note that these paintings are the uinque originals in oil and mixed media, sold directly from the hands of artist Erik Saxen.

Quoting Erik Saxen: One of the 'drawings' I made for the 'High Wire Act' Boteroesque painting is in the offices of Steve Jobs in Cupertino California. The sketch I made for the Botero is in Steve Jobs Office, it was framed under my supervision and acknowledged and thanked for from the office of the CEO.
