ATARI 2600
Junior VCS Console , originaly boxed

Just before Christmas in 1977, Nolan Bushnell and
his Atari gang released the Video Computer System
(VCS), later known as the 2600. The
Atari 2600 (6-switcher), the ulimate gaming machine,
never before and never again will an entertainment
system make such a huge impact. Akin to the aspirin
and sliced bread, their may always be better systems
out there, but none can ever equal the effect on society
that the 2600 created.
In 1985 the Atari
CX 2600 A "Darth Vader" was re-released
as the 2600 JR. The switches are the same as the CX
2600 A except that they are now sliding buttons rather
than switches. The switches on the top of the unit
were On/Off, Black and White/Color, Game Select, and
Rest. Game Difficulty could be switched on the back.
The system was much smaller and could conserve space
much better than it's predessesor.
The Atari 2600 Jr. was introduced in 1985 with a
new ad campaign and a new design for the aging system.
This is almost identical to the first edition 2600
Jr. except that the Rainbow on the metal plate is
wider. It came in a small silver box, and can also
be found in a red box. Once again it has the same
functionally as other Atari models, just a difference
in appearance. The final redesign of the 2600 was
done by Warner Communications in an effort to minimize
the 2600's size, weight, and cost of production. The
game system which was nearing 10 years old got a new
handsome case design that was slightly larger than
a VHS videocassette, and kept a look which went in
stride with the new Atari 7800 ProSystem.
Please note: Not all types of TV´s
can today display a ATARI 2600, the older the TV set
is, the better. If the console does not appear on
your TV screen, test it on an older one. The console
is tested an working fine.

Der (oder das) Atari 2600 war eine Spielkonsole der
Firma Atari, zunächst auch bekannt als "VCS"
für Video Computer System. 1977, noch unter Bushnell's
Leitung, brachte Atari eine der erfolgreichsten und
am längsten produzierte Spielkonsole der Welt
heraus: Das 6-switch
Video Computer System (Entwicklungsname "Stella").
Technisch den Konkurrenten unterlegen, hatte es durch
die riesige Spieleauswahl aber die meisten Käufer
angesprochen.
Insgesamt wurde das 2600-System 13 Jahre lang (!)
produziert, die Junior Version ab ca. 1985, erst 1990
wurde die Herstellung komplett eingestellt. Diese
letzte Version des legendären ATARI 2600 wurde
bis Ende 1990 gebaut.
Bitte beachten: Nicht alle Fernseher
können heute noch eine ATARI 2600 wiedergeben,
es gilt der Grundsatz: je älter der Fernseher,
umso besser. Wenn eine 2600er Konsole bei Ihrem Fernseher
kein Bild zeigt (vergrisseltes, bis gar kein Bild),
versuchen Sie es an einem älteren/anderen Fernseher.
