Macintosh SE FDHD - rare model ID - with ColorVue SE Display Card!
This is a rare Macintosh SE FDHD with a even more rare RasterOps ColorVue SE display card installed! When you turn on the Mac and do not press the option key the ColorVue SE card is booted and you can display the System on an external color display. The original 9´screen from the Mac is not in use when the ColorVue SE card is booted - the external screen takes over the control. I tested the card with an AppleColor High Definition RGB monitor (not included in auction).
On the bootscreen the card shows a complete rainbow logo, but when the system is loaded the menu and typo on the display are blue. But the installed System 6 itself has no color functions. I sell the card without a function guarantee because I do not have a manual for it at have not tested it in detail. The Mac is tested and in good
condition but has a crack on the top left, see the photos.
Running a System 7 on 4 MB RAM.
Comes with an original
Mouse and Apple Keyboard. There is a big Apple Rainbow logo sticker on the left side.
The RasterOps ColorVue SE is unaccelerated and supports Apple and other 640 x 480 displays with Apple's old Mac video connector (card tested only with an AppleColor H.R. RGB Monitor). There is no acceleration. In fact, it is slower than built-in video, as it works with 8 bits of date per pixel - "dirt slow" as you ask me. It was sold for more than 1000 US$ in 1988.
The Macintosh SE FDHD was the first compact monochrome Macintosh to offer a high-density 1.44 MB disk drive as well as a customized PDS expansion slot. The Apple MacSE FDHD features an 8 MHz 68000 processor, 1 to 4 MB of RAM, and either a 20 MB or 40 MB hard drive in a compact all-in-one case with a 9" monochrome display.
Originally the SE could use only Single Sided Double Density (SSDD) (400 KB) and Double Sided Double Density (DSDD) (800 KB) formatted floppy disks. In August 1989, Apple introduced the Macintosh SE FDHD with the new SuperDrive, a floppy disk drive that could handle 1.4 MB High Density (HD) floppy disks. Some later Macintosh SE FDHDs were labeled Macintosh SE Superdrive and are more rare. HD floppies would become the de-facto standard on both the Macintosh and PC computers from then on. An upgrade kit was sold for the original Macintosh SE which included new ROM chips and a new Disk controller chip, to replace the originals.
In Europe, the Macintosh SE FDHD was sold under the labeled name Macintosh SE 1/20 and was shipped 1MB RAM and an internal 20MB hard drive, as well as the Macintosh SE 1/40 which likewise shipped with a 40MB drive.

Macintosh SE FDHD - mit ColorVue SE Display Karte für 2. Monitor!
